Bambu Lab A1 vs A1 Mini: Which Bed Slinger Should You Buy?

Bambu Lab now offers two "entry-level" printers: the full-size A1 and the compact A1 Mini. They share the same touchscreen, the same high-speed motors, and the same nozzle technology.

So, is the A1 just a "big" Mini? Not exactly. Here are the critical differences I found after testing both.

1. The Build Volume

• A1: 256 x 256 x 256 mm.
• A1 Mini: 180 x 180 x 180 mm.

The A1 matches the industry standard (similar to an Ender 3). If you plan to print cosplay masks or large organizers, you need the A1. The Mini is strictly for smaller items.

2. The Bed Design

• A1: Uses a traditional bed with adjustment knobs (though it auto-levels, the knobs are there for manual tramming if ever needed). It is more stable for heavy prints.
• A1 Mini: Uses a cantilever design (arm on one side). It has zero leveling knobs. It is fixed at the factory. This makes the Mini truly "maintenance-free," but less rigid for extremely tall, heavy prints.

3. The AMS Lite Mounting

• A1: Can mount the AMS Lite on the top bar of the printer (with a 3D printed bracket). This saves horizontal desk space.
• A1 Mini: Cannot mount the AMS on top (the cantilever arm can't support the weight). The AMS must sit next to it, meaning the Mini actually takes up more desk width than the A1 in some setups.

4. Heating Power

• A1: Features a 100°C heated bed. It can handle large ABS/ASA prints (if you ventilate the room well, though it lacks an enclosure).
• A1 Mini: Maxes out at 80°C. It really can't print ABS or ASA without warping. It is strictly a PLA/PETG/TPU machine.

The Winner?

• Choose the A1 if: You have the budget (~$399) and want a "do-it-all" printer that won't limit your print size.
• Choose the A1 Mini if: You are on a strict budget (~$299 with AMS) or you are buying a printer for kids/students. It is friendlier and "cuter," making it less intimidating.

🔥 My Recommendation: If you can afford the extra $100, the A1 Combo is the better long-term investment. You won't outgrow the build volume as quickly.
